Everyone has heard about the Taj Mahal and many have seen it. Shah Jahan, the Mughal Emperor, in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died while delivering their fourteenth child, builds the Taj Mahal. The emperor is said to have loved her immensely, and made this mausoleum in her honor. The Taj Mahal is located at Agra. The entire edifice is made from white marble, with semi-precious stones in the intricate designs of the inlays. The architecture is of Persian and Mughlai origin. History states that the Taj was built in 1642,required thousands of artisans to built it, and legend states that the emperor had the hands cut off of the main architect, so that he should not replicate the design again.
