Autopsy is also known as post-mortem examination or Obduction. It is the examination performed on the body of the dead person to determine the cause of death, to identify the extent of disease states that the person may have had. Autopsies are sometimes done for teaching and research purposes. Forensic autopsies are performed to determine if the death was an accident, homicide, suicide or natural. Autopsies are usually performed by pathologists. Examination of brain, abdomen, and chest is considered as standard autopsy by most pathologists. The height and weight of the body are recorded; while marks such as scars and tattoos are also recorded.
